Second half scores send W&J to shutout victory

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- A pair of second-half scores sent the Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team to a 2-0 win in nonconference action at Franciscan.

With the win, the Presidents improve to 3-0-1 on the season behind their second shutout, both by goalkeeper Maddie Potter, who made 10 saves against the Barons, including turning away a penalty kick with no time remaining in the first half to keep the game scoreless through 45 minutes. Franciscan falls to 0-3 on the year, despite playing three close matches against Presidents' Athletic Conference foes.

Molly Peddicord broke the scoreless tie in the 54th minute before Jordan Toohey added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute.

W&J held a slight 20-19 edge on shots, thanks to a 13-4 advantage in the second half. Tatianna Ruzzini led the game with eight shots, while Toohey contributed six.

The Presidents return home on Wednesday, Sept. 19 with a 7 p.m. match against Wooster at Alexandre Stadium.
