WOOSTER, Ohio -- A pair of second-half goals by the Washington & Jefferson field hockey team gave the Presidents a 2-1 win at Wooster.
With the victory, W&J improves to 3-2 on the season and 3-1 in nonconference matches. The Fighting Scots drop to 1-5.
The hosts got on the board first, just 1:44 into the evening. It took W&J until the 44:26 mark to get on the board, when
Rachel Buyan scored off a feed from
Lauren Brown following a penalty corner. With just 3:28 to play,
Lauren Brown put W&J ahead for the first time on the day off an assist by
Kelly Knisel, also following a penalty corner, and the Presidents held on for the road win.
The road team held a commanding, 20-6, lead on shots, with
Amanda Steffey accounting for eight (five on goal), Brown tallying five and
Allison Morrissey adding four.
Morgan Brozena made a pair of saves in net to post her third win of the season.
W&J returns to Empire 8 play on Saturday, Sept. 19, hosting Nazareth at Cameron Stadium, beginning at 1 p.m.
