WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Goalie
Morgan Brozena posted her 10th career shutout of the season as the Presidents made a first-half goal stand up in a 1-0 Empire 8 win over Nazareth.
With the win, Washington & Jefferson field hockey improve to 4-2 on the season and pull even in E8 play at 1-1. The Golden Flyers slip to an even 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Brozena made six saves on the day, while W&J also recorded a defensive save, turning away all seven of Nazareth's shots on goal, and eight total.
The only goal of the day came 20:25 into the game when
Rachel Buyan scored her third of the season on a rebound in front of the cage after a Golden Flyers defender made a save on a previous shot.
Thanks to an 11-2 advantage in the first half, the Presidents boasted a 14-8 lead on shots.
Amanda Steffey led the way with four shots and
Kelly Knisel was second with three shots.
Lauren Brown and Buyan each posted a pair of shots in the win.
W&J has a quick turnaround, hosting Kenyon, who is receiving votes in the most recent National Field Hockey Coaches Association Top 20 poll, on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m.
