Carter scores in 106th minute to give W&J 3-2 win at La Roche

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Playing in their second-straight double overtime match, the Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team got a goal from Justin Carter in the 106th minute to send the Presidents home with a 3-2 victory at La Roche.

The goal came midway through the second overtime, with just 4:46 remaining until W&J (3-1-1) would have earned its second straight draw. Carter's goal, his second of the season, careened off a La Roche defender into the goal.

In regulation, the two teams traded scores as the Redhawks got on the board first just 2:35 into the match. Scott Hanna's second goal of the year came off a rebound in the 38th minute and was assisted by Carter, 1-1. La Roche (2-4-0) was able to re-take the lead just 3:31 after Hanna's goal and held a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Alex Blout found the back of the net over the keeper from inside the box in the 58th minute, notching his first career goal and knotting the match, 2-2, which would hold up through regulation and the first overtime until Carter sent W&J home a 3-2 winner.

Paced by 12 shots in each of the first 45-minute periods, W&J boasted a 27-19 advantage on shots. Carter and Hanna each had a team-high five shots, while Jason Menni, Justin Nolfi and Garrett French each chipped in three shots.

Benny Wilt improved to 3-1-1 on the year, playing the entire match in net and making nine saves in the process.

W&J continues its four-match road swing on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Frostburg State, scheduled for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
