W&J Volleyball splits at home tri-match

WASHINGTON, Pa. – In a home tri-match Washington & Jefferson volleyball faced-off against Geneva and Chatham, losing to the first and defeating the latter.

In the first game versus the current number one ranked team in the conference, Geneva, W&J fell 3-0.

The game scores were 25-22, 25-12, 25-20.

During the first set W&J put up an offensive fight. At one point the score was tied 22-22, but after being unable to capitalize and defend against a few of Geneva's kills and aces, the Presidents fell just short.

The second set saw a slump from W&J. Geneva was able to pull ahead early and Washington & Jefferson were not able to find redemption.
W&J came close to a comeback during the third set, regaining the energy seen in the first. But after tying the game 18-18, Geneva was slowly able to once again capture the lead.

The effort seen by the Presidents showed Allison Means leading the game with 28 digs, while Sarah Dindak registered 11 and Nicole Bishwaty with ten. Bishwaty also contributed offensively with nine kills and Madison Lydic and Allison Means each had five. Emily Toy contributed with 16 assists while Sarah Dindak and Allison Means each tallied a kill.

The second game of the Washington & Jefferson tri-match saw the home team win to earn a split on the day.

Lauren Frazetta stepped up and posted nine kills on the board. Bishwaty pitched in with 16 assists and three aces.

Defensively, Katheryn Rotthoff made 15 digs and Abigail Eich put up four blocks.

The Presidents played consistently, with totals coming to 25-19, 25-12, 25-19. The outcomes of today's matches puts their record at 4-5 and a 2-2 conference record.

They will look to continue winning on the road against Thomas More in Crestview Hills, Ky. on Sept. 18 at 7:30 pm.
