WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson's men's soccer team won 2-1 in double overtime on a game-winning goal by
Scott Hanna, assisted by
Justin Nolfi, with 57 seconds left in double overtime against Muskingum.
The win marks W&J's fifth overtime appearance in the last six matches. The Presidents are now 3-0-2 when they go into overtime this season.
Muskingum opened the scoring in the first half at 35:45, but it was W&J that led in shots, 33-7, and corner kicks, 14-2, throughout the evening, tying it at 1-1 after Nolfi scored his second goal of the season at 88:00 in the second half thanks to a touch assist by
Jason Menni.
Hanna was able to get one past the goalie at 109:03, grabbing the 2-1 win for the Presidents. Hanna's goal is the latest in a game for W&J men's soccer since Brad Cherry's game-winner at 107:59 against Wittenberg on Sept. 21, 2002.
Benny Wilt once again went the distance in net, giving him and the team a 5-2-2 record on the season, while making three saves in the process.
The men's soccer team is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1:00 pm against Maryville (Tenn.) at Alexandre Stadium in the final tune-up before beginning Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
