WASHINGTON, PA. –
Jordan Toohey's third hat trick of the season led Washington & Jefferson to a 4-0 shutout win against Penn State Altoona.
The win is the Presidents' third shutout in a row after only giving up one goal in the last five matches, running their scoreless streak to 316:48.
Allison Rinehimer was anchored in net, making three saves and earning her second, and W&J's fifth, shutout of the season.
Toohey opened scoring at 17:23, shooting from around 16 yards out into the bottom left corner of the net following a forward pass made by
Josie Madden.
Into the second half, at 57:39, the ball skipped past the keeper after it was chipped in unassisted by Toohey, putting the Presidents up 2-0.
They held onto the lead as, less than ten minutes later, Toohey captured her third hat trick and 13th goal of the season with help from
Tatiana Ruzzini.
To secure the 4-0 shutout,
Samantha Fields took a rebound off of her own shot right in front of the cage, posting her first career goal at 76:40.
The Presidents outshot the Lions 20-5, hitting 11 on goal.
The win advances W&J to a record of 6-1-1 as they head into Presidents' Athletic Conference play against Chatham on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 3:00 pm at Alexandre Stadium.
