Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

W&J reaches century mark for second time ever, 100-67

By Danielle Kochka, Sports Information Student Assistant

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team cruised to an emphatic win over Thiel, defeating the Tomcats 100-67.

The victory is only the second time in program history that the W&J women's basketball team has reached 100 points and the first time W&J has hit triple digits at home. The current record for points in a game is 101 against Saint Vincent in the 2013-14 Presidents' Athletic Conference semifinals at Thomas More.

The Presidents were ahead from the start, jumping to a 29-14 lead after the first quarter. Amirah Moore led the offensive effort, exploding out of the gate with nine first-quarter points. W&J kept that comfortable lead for the remainder of the game.

Twelve Presidents were in the scoring column, with three members of the W&J team finishing the game in double digits. Senior Beka Bellhy finished with a game-high 18 points and four steals. Moore ended up with 15 points, and Ashley Mikelonis put up 12 points.

Sophomore Rachel Bellhy was two points shy of a double-double, collecting eight points and bringing down 11 rebounds in the game.

W&J moves to 15-3 on the season and 10-1 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.

The Presidents will next travel to Chatham on Saturday, January 30th for another PAC contest against the Cougars. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 pm.
