Presidents win a pair at Senior Day tri-match

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team defeated Thiel, 3-2, in its Senior Day match followed by a 3-1 victory over Oberlin on Saturday, Oct. 15, to improve to 16-7 overall and 9-5 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The set scores against Thiel totaled 25-20, 25-22, 21-25, 21-25, 17-15 while the set scores against Oberlin totaled 25-19, 25-17, 27-29, 28-26.

In the match against Thiel, Abbey Eich (Greencastle, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) recorded a match-high 16 kills with a .267 hitting percentage while Taylor Freeman (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) finished the match with 14 kills and a .394 hitting percentage and also 33 digs.

Mallory O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led the Presidents' offense with 28 assists while Emily Toy (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) contributed 25. Allison Means (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville Area) led the defense with a match-high 43 digs while Sarah Dindak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) tallied 27 digs.

Senior Lauren Frazetta (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) finished the match with three kills while fellow senior Lexi Hilzendeger (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) recorded eight kills and five digs.

The Presidents finished the first match with 61 kills and 127 digs.

In the second match, Eich led the Presidents' offense with 12 kills while Madison Lydic (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) contributed 10 kills and a .474 hitting percentage and four blocks.

Toy led the Presidents in assists with 19 while O'Brien finished with 18 as well as 13 digs. Means recorded a team-high 31 digs while Dindak finished with 19 and Makenzie Coughlin (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) had 16.

Hilzendeger recorded seven kills, with 12 digs, in the second match.

The Presidents return to the court on Wednesday, Oct. 19, when they host Grove City at 7 p.m. in PAC action.
