Presidents extend winning streak to four in 5-0 win over Bison

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team defeated Bethany, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 15, to improve to 10-3-2 overall and 4-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The win also extended the Presidents' winning streak to four games.

Jordan Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant/Saint Francis (Pa.)) recorded her fourth hat trick of the season, the eighth of her career, and scored the first two goals of the game. Her first came in the 16th minute when she was able to volley a one-touch shot coming off a mid-field clear from Megan Ochsenreiter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler). Seven minutes later, Toohey deflected in a shot by Mariah Lockard (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) after the ball had slipped through the hands of the Bison keeper to give the Presidents a 2-0 halftime lead.

In the 47th minute, Brianna Floryshak (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) tallied her first goal of the season as she volleyed in a corner cross from Josie Madden (McKeesport, Pa./Elizabeth Forward). Toohey completed her hat trick in the 74th minute after taking two touches on a pass from Emilee Handyside (Rochester, Pa./Freedom Area) who sent a through ball from mid-field.

Julie Halula (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) rounded out the scoring in the game with her second goal of the season after she was able to corral a rebound following a saved shot by Victoria Bowler (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park).

Allison Rinehimer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) (8-3-2) earned the win for the Presidents as she and Beth Boyles (Dundee, Ohio/Hiland) combined on the shutout with Rinehimer playing the first half and Boyles playing the second. The Presidents' defense stifled the Bison offense as the defense not only gave up no shots on goal, but zero total shots as well. Anna Riddle (2-6-1) took the loss in net for the Bison, making eight saves in 72:20 of action. Taylor Sasak finished the game for the Bison and made four saves.

As a team, the Presidents were able to get off 35 shots in the game, with 18 being on goal.

The Presidents return to the pitch on Tuesday, Oct. 18, when they host Thiel in a 7 p.m. PAC battle.
