WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team defeated La Roche, 3-0, in the regular season home finale on Wednesday night, Oct. 20, as the final set scores totaled 25-18, 25-8, 25-18.
The win improves the Presidents to 18-7 overall on the season and drops the Redhawks to 6-13 overall.
With 18 digs in the match,
Allison Means (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville Area) passed Nellica Davis (2006-09) for the second most digs in W&J Volleyball history (1,791). Means' 18 digs were a match-high while
Makenzie Coughlin (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) finished with 11 and
Lexi Hilzendeger (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) finished with 10.
Madison Lydic (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) led the team with nine kills and recorded a match-high .692 hitting percentage.
Abbey Eich (Greencastle, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) finished with seven kills while
Taylor Freeman (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) and
Morgan Jacques (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Science & Technology Academy) both finished with six kills along with .417 and .444 respective hitting percentages.
Mallory O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) totaled a match-high 20 assists and
Emily Toy (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) finished with 14.
As a team, W&J finished the match with 39 kills, including 18 in the first set with a .359 hitting percentage.
The Presidents will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 22, when they travel to Chatham for a 12 p.m. Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup.
