ITHACA, N.Y. -- Washington & Jefferson was handed a 3-1 defeat at Ithaca in Empire 8 field hockey action.
The loss drops the Presidents to 13-3 overall and 4-3 in the Empire 8. The Bombers improve to 6-7 this season and 4-3 in the league.
After the game was scoreless more than 13 minutes into the second half, Ithaca broke the tie at 48:40. Less than eight minutes later, at 56:17, the Bombers added to the lead, 2-0, and then needed only 22 seconds to extend the margin to 3-0.
Laura O'Malley (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) got the Presidents on the board with 8:24 remaining, but W&J was unable to erase the deficit.
Amanda Steffey (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) tied for the game lead with four shots, while O'Malley added three.
Karlie Baran (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) made three saves in the losing effort.
W&J will conclude the regular season at home in one week, on Saturday, Oct. 29, with a 10 a.m. Senior Day start against Stevens (N.J.).
