W&J extends winning streak to six games with 2-1 decision at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team beat Saint Vincent, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 23.

The win improved the Presidents to 12-3-2 overall and 6-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference while also extending their winning streak to six games, a season-long.

After giving up a goal in the first minute, the Presidents responded in the 11th minute as Josie Madden (McKeesport, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) equalized with her sixth goal of the season with the assist coming from Tatiana Ruzzini (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park). In the 29th minute, Ruzzini added her 15th goal of the season, her third game-winner, on an assist from Mariah Lockard (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) to close the scoring for the game.

After giving up four shots, three on goal, in the first half the Presidents defense allowed just two total shots, one on goal, in the second half to prevent the Bearcats from tying the game.

Allison Rinehimer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) (10-3-2) earned the win for the Presidents, making three saves, while Melissa McCarthy (1-7-3) took the loss for the Bearcats, making three saves in the first half. Corinne Burk came on in the second half for the Bearcats and made five saves.

With her 10th win of the season, Rinehimer matched her win total from the 2015 season.

As a team, the Presidents took 22 shots in the game, 11 in both halves, and put 10 on goal.

The Presidents return to the pitch on Tuesday, Oct. 25, when they travel to Westminster for a 7:30 PAC matchup.
