Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

W&J drops first conference match of the season, 4-1, at Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team fell to 4-4-1 overall on the season, 0-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, with a 4-1 loss at Grove City on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
 
In the 36th minute, Justin Nolfi (Irwin, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) sent a through-ball down the center of the field towards Garrett French (Palm, Pa./Homeschooled) who beat the Wolverine keeper just inside the right post for his second goal of the season, as the Presidents went into halftime trailing 3-1.
 
The Wolverines jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half after scoring in the seventh, 16th and 19th minutes thanks to Jimmy Hueber, Peter Tobias and Stephen Betteridge, respectively. In the 51st minute, Dale Reese tacked on the fourth Wolverine goal to yield the final margin.
 
Jeremy Stone (Hope Mills, N.C./Fayetteville Academy) (2-1) took the loss in net for the Presidents, playing the first 57:42 of the game and making four saves. Nick Stasko (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) played the rest of the second half for the Presidents. Malcolm Blake (9-3) earned the win in net for the Wolverines, making one save in 59:23 of action. Bryan Denny finished the game for the Wolverines and made four saves.
 
As a team, the Presidents held a 14-13 advantage in total shots for the game.
 
The Presidents return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 8, when they host Geneva in PAC action at 1 p.m.
