HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team saw its scoreless and winning streaks snapped in a 1-0 overtime loss at Houghton.
The Highlanders scored 9:30 into overtime, breaking the scoreless tie to that point. The winning goal came off the stick of Kelsie Ashley at the 79:30 mark. It snapped W&J's 10-match winning streak, which matched the best streak in school history, and a scoreless run that had gone over 450 minutes.
Karlie Baran (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) made a pair of saves in the loss, falling to 10-1 on the year. As a team, the Presidents fall to 10-1 overall and 4-1 in the Empire 8. Houghton is now 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Overall, W&J held a 9-8 edge on shots, with
Amanda Steffey (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) leading all players with five shots (all on goal).
The Presidents will travel to Ohio Wesleyan in nonconference action on Tuesday, Oct. 11 for a 7 p.m. start.
