WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team defeated Westminster, 3-2, in the Presidents' Athletic Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday night, Nov. 1, as the final set scores totaled 25-17, 21-25, 21-25, 25-14, 15-11.
With the win, the Presidents advanced to their first PAC semifinal match since the 2009 season and eclipsed the 20-win mark for the first time since 2005.
Taylor Freeman (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) led the Presidents' offense with 13 kills on a .324 hitting percentage and also contributed 21 digs on defense.
Abbey Eich (Greencastle, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) finished the match with 12 kills to go along with five blocks.
Mallory O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led the way with 26 assists to go along with 14 digs while
Emily Toy (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) totaled 18 assists and 13 digs.
Allison Means (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville Area) recorded a match-high 32 digs, her eighth match of 30 or more digs this season, while
Makenzie Coughlin (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) was the fifth President to record double-digit digs (11).
Madison Lydic (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) recorded seven blocks in the match to lead all players and also totaled nine kills on offense.
As a team, the Presidents used a .333 hitting percentage to pull away in the fifth set, their highest single-set hitting percentage of the match, while holding the Titans to a .182 hitting percentage in the fifth set.
The Presidents will travel to No. 1-seed Bethany on Friday, Nov. 4, for the PAC semifinals at 6 p.m.
