WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team opened its 2016-17 season with an 80-74 loss on the first day of the SpringHill Suites Tournament on Friday night, Nov. 18.
Amirah Moore (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) totaled a game-high 22 points in the loss as she connected on 10-of-20 shots from the field and hit both of her free throw attempts. Moore also dished out nine dimes, pulled in six rebounds, blocked a shot and came away with four steals in 35 minutes of action.
Danni Medovich (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) poured in 13 points, hitting 4-of-8 shots from the field but connecting on all three of her shots from long range.
Taylor Cortazzo (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) was the third President to score in double-figures as she finished the game 3-for-7 on her three-point shots to go along with four rebounds and two assists.
Rachel Bellhy (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) and
Mya Gordon (Washington, Pa./Washington) served as the stoppers on defense as they both tallied two blocks each, with Gordon bringing down a team-high nine rebounds.
As a team, the Presidents held an advantage in bench points (19-15) while scoring 34 points in the paint and forcing 20 turnovers.
The Presidents will host Earlham in the consolation game on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m.
