W&J finishes fifth, Willison named to All-Tournament First Team in season finale

How it Happened: The Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team opened the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Western Division Championships with a 12-9 loss to Mercyhurst.
 
Top Performers: Patrick Fredrick (Saratoga, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep) scored three goals to lead the Presidents' offense to go along with four steals on defense.
 
The Rest: Troy Smith (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos) and Tyler Willison (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) both scored twice and each recorded one steal while Nicholas Willison (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) and Joshua Emde (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West) both scored once to round out the Presidents' scoring. Zach Bacchus (Ocoee, Fla./West Orange) took the loss in goal and made 12 saves.

Opponent: Monmouth (Ill.)
Result: W, 19-7
 
How it Happened: Men's Water Polo earned a first-day split with a 19-7 victory over Monmouth (Ill.) in its second game.
 
Top Performers: Fredrick and Nicholas Willison both scored five goals, including a combined five goals in the first quarter, to lead the offense for the Presidents.
 
The Rest: Emde, Tyler Willison, Ian Geister (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Dylan Gwinn (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph) all scored twice while Smith scored one goal to round out the scoring in the game. Bacchus played the second and third quarters in goal for the Presidents and made six saves while Mac Hennessy (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) played the first and fourth quarters and made 11 saves, including seven in the fourth quarter.

Where: Erie, Pa.
Opponent: La Salle
Result: W, 23-6
 
How it Happened: The W&J men's water polo team concluded its 2016 season with a 23-6 win over La Salle to finish in fifth-place at the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Western Division Championships.
 
Top Performers: Nicholas and Tyler Willison led the offense for the Presidents as the brothers both scored six times.
 
The Rest: Fredrick totaled four goals in the game while Smith scored twice. Geister, Gwinn, Emde and Nicholas Spehar (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) all scored once to round out the scoring. In goal, Hennessy played the first half and made five saves while Bacchus played the second half and made six saves.
