WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson erased a halftime deficit to cruise to a 77-55 win over Westminster in the final regular-season home game while celebrating Senior Night.
The win takes the Presidents to a 20-4 record overall, marking the fourth-straight 20-win season and matching the 10th largest win total in program history. W&J also improves to 15-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
A jumper by Westminster opened scoring, but W&J was quick to respond. The Titans were able to pull ahead for the majority of the first quarter, but a three-pointer by
Danni Medovich was able give the Presidents a one-point lead at 2:52. The first quarter wrapped up with W&J trailing, 20-17.
The second quarter saw Westminster open scoring once again, holding the lead throughout the quarter despite six points from
Beka Bellhy. The half ended with a score of 33-30 in favor of Westminster.
A layup by
Amirah Moore that immediately followed a jumper by B. Bellhy to begin the second half gave W&J momentum and the 34-33 lead. A free throw by
Rachel Bellhy at 7:31 gave the Presidents a two point margin that they would build on for the rest of the game, not allowing the Titans to lead again. At one point, between the 7:37-mark of the third quarter and the 6:27-mark of the fourth period, the scoring run was 30-7 in favor of the Presidents
During the final stanza, W&J eventually built the margin to a game-high 25 points after a three-pointer by
Mia Woytovich with 5:14 left in the game. The Presidents finished the game with a 77-55 win.
B. Bellhy led the team with her seventh double-double of the year, scoring a game-high 18 points and bringing down 10 rebounds, tying R. Bellhy for the game best.
With 13 points of her own,
Taylor Cortazzo completed five of her six free throws.
Moore also scored in the double digits, sinking 12 points, shooting 66.7 percent (six-of-nine) from the field.
R. Bellhy contributed nine points and a game-high three blocks to go with her 10 rebounds.
W&J wraps up the 2015-16 regular season with a 2 p.m. tip-off at Bethany on Saturday, Feb. 20.
