Second half sinks Presidents in 13-11 loss against Ohio Wesleyan

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Presidents led 7-5 at half, but were outscored 8-4 in the second half in a season-opening 13-11 loss against Ohio Wesleyan.
 
With the defeat, Washington & Jefferson falls to a record of 0-1, while the Battling Bishops advance to 1-0.
 
Ashley Bulger led on the offensive with four goals, while Caroline Kallos contributed three goals and three helpers.
 
Kallos (six) and Monica Ewansik (six) combined for 12 of W&J's 15 total draw controls, with Ewansik also picking up a game-high six ground balls.
 
Although the game was tied 3-3 at 15:11 in the first, W&J was able to claim the lead a little over a minute later (13:24) after a free position goal by Bulger, and retained it for the rest of the half.
 
The second half saw the Battling Bishops open scoring at 27:05 with a free position goal. The visitors held onto this momentum to gain the lead at 12:11, maintaining it for the rest of the game with W&J falling, 13-11.
 
Ohio Wesleyan led in shots, 27-25, with 25-21 of the shots being on-goal.
 
Leah Yerardi was in the net for the Presidents with 12 saves.
 
W&J will remain at home to take on Franciscan on March 2nd at 6:00 pm.
