Monica Ewansik netted her first hat trick in a Washington & Jefferson uniform as the Presidents were toppled by Ursinus on the road, 15-5.
The loss drops the W&J women's lacrosse team to 0-2 to open up the 2016 campaign, while the Bears improve to 3-1.
For Ewansik, it marked her first three-goal game in Red & Black after transferring from Sweet Briar (Va.). In two years with the Vixens, the junior recorded 11 hat tricks and 57 total goals over 32 career games. She got the Presidents on the board in the first half at 19:36 of the first half and then added two more goals in the second half at 8:40 and 3:13.
Caroline Kallos (19:07 second half) and
Ashley Bulger (1:47 second half) both added scores for W&J.
Ewansik led all players with seven shots, while Kallos posted three and Bulger added two.
Leah Yerardi picked up a team-best three ground balls and
Diana Harvey grabbed four draw controls.
Yerardi suffered the loss in goal, allowing 10 goals and making three saves in the first half.
Michaela Mulokey tallied three saves in relief during the second half.
The Presidents return home to Alexandre Stadium to host Hiram at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9.
