ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- A 9-0 second-half run by the hosts sunk the Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team in a 19-9 nonconference loss at Elizabethtown.
The Presidents slip to 1-3 on the season with the loss, while the Blue Jays increase their overall mark to 2-3. W&J will remain on the road for a 7 p.m. match at Allegheny on Tuesday, March 15.
Caroline Kallos scored five goals, one shy of her career high of six from last season against Thiel and matching the second highest total of her career, accomplished in her second outing as a rookie against Allegheny. All five of her scores against Elizabethtown came in the first half.
Monica Ewansik accounted for the other W&J score of the opening 30 minutes as the Presidents trailed, 10-6, at halftime.
Holly DeLoache found the back of the net to open the second-half scoring, her first of the year, but Elizabethtown rattled off the next nine goals to build a 19-7 lead. The final two tallies on the afternoon were from Presidents, another by DeLoache and one from
Ashley Bulger.
Alex Dikos turned in a pair of assists and Bulger added one helper. Kallos picked up a game-high six draw controls and team-best four ground balls in the loss.
Michaela Mulokey made nine saves in 25:48, while
Leah Yerardi suffered the loss in allowing nine goals in 34:12.
