MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team dropped a 22-8 nonconference decision at Allegheny at Frank Fuhrer Field.
The loss brings the Presidents to 1-4 on the season, with another nonconference matchup against Franciscan on Thursday, March 17 at 6 p.m. at Alexandre Stadium.
A pair of goals by
Monica Ewansik 1:11 in the first half made it a 3-2 game in favor of the hosts, but the Gators answered with four more goals and five of the next six scores to open up an 8-3 lead before
Ashley Bulger's second of the game made it 8-4 with 4:47 left in the opening period. Three unanswered goals to close the first half gave the home team an 11-4 lead at intermission.
The Presidents opened the second half strong, scoring three of the first five goals of the final frame (one each by
Caroline Kallos,
Diana Harvey and Ewansik), to get within 12-7 with 26:09 to play. Allegheny, however, scored nine of the final 10 goals to take away the 22-8 victory.
Bulger and Ewansik both recorded their third hat tricks of the season in finishing with three goals apiece. Ewansik led the Presidents with six shots, while Bulger tallied four. Kallos picked up a game-high eight ground balls, while Harvey led the Presidents with five draw controls.
Michaele Mulokey suffered the loss, allowing 11 goals and making seven saves in 25:56.
Leah Yerardi also yielded 11 scores, while contributing three saves in 34:04.
