CLERMONT, Fla. – Washington & Jefferson dropped a pair of decisions on its third day in Florida, falling 3-2 to Hope (Mich.), currently ranked second in the NCAA DIII Central Regional Rankings, and then 3-1 to Stevens (N.J.), currently ranked seventh in the Northeast.Â
Rachel Marx and
Ally Doty each hit a pair in the day's opener against Hope, with Marx scoring the first run of the day at the top of the second. The second of the Presidents' two runs of the game was tallied by
Jamie Smith who hit a home run on the first pitch of the first at bat of the top of the second.
Pitching the full seven innings versus the Dutchmen,
Krista McCartney surrendered just one earned run out of only five hits in 22 at bats and 98 pitches.
The day's closer against Stevens saw
Logann Woodley score the lone run for the Presidents following a double hit to center field by
Taylor Andres.
Andres was also on the mound for the duration of the game, capturing three strike outs.
The Presidents will return to action on Wednesday, March 23rd at 9 am against Southern Maine and 11:00 versus Western Connecticut State, following a bye.
