CLERMONT, Fla. – Following eight innings of play versus Southern Maine, Washington & Jefferson faced an 11-7 deficit. Closing out the day against Western Connecticut State, the Presidents fell 4-3.

With two runs in each game,
Rachel Marx led W&J on offense. This included a home run against Southern Maine in the bottom of the seventh to bring herself and
Meghan Staab home. Her hat trick of hits on the day helped to move her to a batting average of .419 on the season so far.

Emily Watson also had a homerun against the Huskies in the bottom of the fourth, while her hit at the bottom of the seventh helped
Jamie Smith to score, tying the game at 6-6 and sending it into extra innings. Watson also notched the third and final point for W&J in the second game of the day, with help from a single by
Ally Doty.

Krista McCartney threw 170 pitches on the day, pitching 5.1 innings against Southern Maine and 5.2 versus Western Connecticut, and capturing five strikeouts in each showing.

A trio of Presidents,
Logann Woodley,
Danielle Kochka and
Meghan Staab, also each tallied a run against the Huskies.

W&J softball will wrap up its trip to Florida with a game against Wisconsin-Platteville at 5:00 pm and a matchup versus Benedictine at 7:00 pm tomorrow, March 24th.
