WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's lacrosse team encountered a 14-3 setback at former Landmark Conference foe Goucher (Md.) Tuesday night.
The Gophers blanked the Presidents in the first half by scoring three in the first quarter and seven in the second to hold a 10-0 lead through 30 minutes.
The second half featured much of the same as Goucher netted three more goals improving their score to 13-0. Â With 4:48 left in the third, W&J's
Zach Fredericks scored the Presidents' first goal concluding the quarter 13-1.
W&J picked up the pace with
Devon Curran and
Bryan Whipkey each netting a goal in the fourth to Goucher's one, bringing the count to 14-3. However the Presidents were unable to make up lost ground in the final quarter and fall to 1-7 on the season, while the Gophers move to 7-2.
The Presidents' goalkeeper
Jacob Succop recorded 17 saves on 31 shots in the loss.
Ryan Quan finished 10-of-20 on faceoffs and picked up a team-best seven ground balls. Succop and
Michael Nejak each nabbed six GB's and
Nick Norris caused four turnovers.
The Presidents will look to get back on track Friday, March 25, when they travel to Lexington, Ky. to take on Transylvania in their second Ohio River Lacrosse Conference match up.
