WASHINGTON, Pa. – Although
Jacob Succop was in net with 20 saves, the Washington & Jefferson men's lacrosse team was topped by Wooster, 14-4.
Wooster opened the first period with back-to-back goals, but W&J responded by scoring two of its own, first at 10:40 as
Kyle Heinig got the Presidents on the board, assisted by
Bryan Whipkey and then again with 7:00 left in the first from
Devon Curran assisted by
Ryan Quan.
The second period saw the Fighting Scots put three more on the board, while
Jacob Succop made six saves for the Presidents. W&J went into the half down, 5-2.
Less than a minute into the second half, Wooster was once again able to get one in the net, keeping the momentum to go on and score three more in the period despite five more saves by Succop.
W&J capitalized first in the fourth quarter, with
Kyle MacKenzie scoring his first of the season while Heinig added an assist. Heinig moved his goals to a pair when he scored again at 4:18 in the fourth, capping the Presidents' offense for the day.
Succop and
Nick Norris tied for the game high with eight ground balls apiece.
Joseph Tritschler caused three turnovers, while
Sean Rock and Norris each posted a pair.
Wooster led in shots, 57-19, with 34-10 of them landing on goal. Curran and Heinig each tallied five shots for the Presidents.
W&J moves to 1-3 while Wooster advances to 3-0.
The Presidents will travel to Alliance, Ohio on March 9 to take on Mount Union at 7:30 pm.Â
