WASHINGTON, Pa. – Although
Zach Fredericks recorded a career-and-game-high five goals, the Washington & Jefferson men's lacrosse team encountered a 12-9 setback against Mount Union to move the Presidents to 1-4 on the season.

W&J led after the first quarter, 3-2, thanks to a pair of goals by Fredericks and a tally from
Kyle Heinig. The Presidents opened up the second quarter with another score from Heinig but could not hold the lead as the Purple Raiders stormed back to tie the game at 4-4 just before halftime.

Mount Union kicked off the second half by scoring three unanswered goals until
Devon Curran and Fredericks got the team within one score, 7-6. By the end of the third quarter, the Purple Raiders held a 9-7 lead. The two teams exchanged goals in the fourth but the Presidents failed to regain the lost ground in the end.

Heinig tallied three goals on nine shots, his fourth-straight multi-goal game, and an assist.
Ryan Quan finished 14-of-23 on face offs and picked up a game-best eight ground balls. Goalkeeper
Jacob Succop made 12 saves in the defeat.

W&J's next game is at Capital and is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. in Bexley, Ohio.
