Presidents sweep Golden Tornadoes in twin bill action

WASHINGTON, Pa. – In a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader against Geneva, Washington & Jefferson swept, topping the Golden Tornadoes 2-1 and then 7-1.

With the victories, the Presidents now hold a 7-13 record on the season with a 4-4 conference record.

The game was scoreless until Morgan Figura advanced on a fielder's choice by the second baseman, bringing Ally Doty home at the bottom of the third inning.

Geneva responded at the top of the sixth with a run of its own, but the Presidents broke the tie shortly after in the bottom of the inning when Abby Cunningham doubled to center field, helping Morgan Figura to score.

In the circle, Krista McCartney pitched a full game, allowing only one walk and one earned run in 29 at bats.

Logann Woodley was on first base with six putouts and one assist, Cunningham had five putouts with one assist at shortstop, while Meghan Staab registered four putouts and three assists at second base.

W&J once again started off scoring, this time at the bottom of the second inning in the second game of the twin bill when a single to the shortstop by Jamie Smith allowed Emily Watson to score.

The Golden Tornadoes went on to score their only run of the game at the top of the third, with Taylor Andres pitching all seven innings and allowing no earned runs and only three hits.

Cunningham singled to left field at the bottom of the third to bat in Staab and put the Presidents in the lead once again. W&J scored once again in the fourth inning when Danielle Kochka scored while pinch running for Woodley.

The fifth inning saw the Presidents notch three runs. Cunningham doubled down the left field line, bringing Marx home. Watson then doubled to center field, allowing Cunningham to score. A single down the right field line by Taylor Andres brought Woodley and Watson in to score, putting the Presidents up, 7-1.

Logan Woodley led in the field during the second game of the day with seven putouts, while Nicole Ashcraft had five of her own and Rachel Marx recorded a trio.

W&J will travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. on April 16 to take on Chatham in a PAC doubleheader with the first game set to start at 3:30 pm.
