WASHINGTON, Pa. – In a doubleheader hosted by Washington & Jefferson, Westminster topped the Presidents first 6-2 and then 5-2, despite a pair of two-run homers hit by
Emily Watson.
The Titans took a two run lead in the first inning and held onto it until it was increased to five with three more runs at the top of the second and again with a run at the top of the seventh, giving Westminster a 6-0 lead.
Â
W&J was put on the board when a homerun in the bottom of the seventh from Watson, her second of the season, allowed
Abby Cunningham to score as well. The two runs weren't enough to overtake the Titans, as the score was finalized at 6-2.
Krista McCartney was in the circle for the full seven innings, sacrificing only a trio of both earned runs and walks.
Â
Westminster once again took the lead in the second matchup of the day, scoring once at the top of the first inning and two more times in the top of the second. The Titans continued to keep the Presidents scoreless as they notched their fourth run of the game in the top of the fourth inning and then again in the top of the fifth, making it 5-0.
Â
It was another two-run homer by Watson, this time in the bottom of the sixth, that moved the score to 6-2 where it would remain for the rest of the game.
Â
Taylor Andres was the pitcher for the full second game, allowing only four earned runs and one walk.
Â
Washington & Jefferson will return to action on Saturday, April 9th as it hosts Geneva in a PAC doubleheader at 1:00 pm.
