FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-21) sweep at Frostburg State (Md.).
Madison Lydic (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) paced the attack with 11 kills, while the trio of
Abbey Eich (Greencastle, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)),
Taylor Freeman (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) and
Lexi Hilzendeger (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) each turned in eight kills.
Mallory O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) handed out a team-high 21 assists, while
Emily Toy (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) passed out 17 helpers.
Defensively,
Allison Means (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville Area) led three Presidents in double figures with 18 digs. Freeman chipped in 16, while
Makenzie Coughlin (Brunsnwick, Ohio/Brunswick) notched 13. Lydic and
Julia Bernesser (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) each tallied three blocks.
W&J returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 11 when it opens Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Thomas More. Match time is set for 1 p.m. in Crestview Hills, Ky.
