Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Presidents stay hot, defeat Juniata, 2-0

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team improved to 6-0 on the season with a 2-0 victory over Juniata on Tuesday night, Sept. 20.

Rachel Fromm (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) gave the Presidents a 1-0 in the 24th minute of the game after gathering a rebound following a corner and fired it into the back of the cage. The goal was Fromm's fourth of the season.

With time starting to wind down in the game, the Presidents got another corner opportunity. After picking up a loose ball, Laura O'Malley (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) sent a shot through the circle that bounced a few different ways until Kelly Knisel (Weatogue, Conn./Simsbury), positioned at the far post, was able to redirect the ball in for her second score of the season with just under six minutes to play.

Karlie Baran (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) (6-0) continued her hot play, making three saves to record her second shutout of the season, tied for most in the Empire 8 Conference. Kelsey Bowman (Springfield, Va./Robert E. Lee) also came up big in the first half, making a defensive save. Kylie Edwards (1-5) took the loss for the Eagles, making two saves in the first half. Santana Mays played the second half for the Eagles and made five saves.

As a team, the Presidents won the shot battle, 18-9, including a 9-4 edge in shots on goal.

The Presidents return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 24, when they travel to Hartwick for a 1 p.m. conference matchup.
