W&J extends unbeaten streak to four games in 4-2 win at Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team defeated Penn State-Altoona, 4-2, on Thursday night, Sept. 29.
 
After giving up a goal in the third minute, Jordan Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant/Saint Francis (Pa.)) evened the score with her ninth goal of the season off a pass from Jillian Bartman (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) in the seventh minute. Seven minutes later, Toohey scored again to record her 10th career multi-goal game off an assist from Brianna Floryshak (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area).
 
In the 34th minute, Josie Madden (McKeesport, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) tallied her third goal of the season after taking a pass from Chandler Marteeny (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) inside the box and scoring to the right side of the net from 12 yards out. Julie Halula (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) followed with her first goal of the season in the 43rd minute off a pass from Tatiana Ruzzini (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) to give the Presidents a 4-1 halftime lead.
 
The Lions tacked on a goal in the 53rd minute but the Presidents were able to hold them there for rest of the match.
 
Allison Rinehimer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) (4-2-2) earned the win in net for the Presidents, playing the first half and making one save. Beth Boyles (Dundee, Ohio/Hiland) played the second half and made two saves. Molly Malone (3-6-1) took the loss in net for the Lions and made 16 saves.
 
The Presidents outshot the Lions 38-8 in the game, including a 20-5 edge in shots on goal.
 
W&J returns to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Chatham to kick-off conference action at 1 p.m.
