Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Presidents get first win of the season, 3-0, at Pitt-Greensburg

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team defeated Pitt-Greensburg, 3-0, on Wednesday night to earn its first win of 2016, improving to 1-1 on the season.

In the 23rd minute, junior Garrett French (Palm, Pa./Homeschooled) started the scoring for the Presidents with a curling shot from 25 yards out, his first goal of the season. The Presidents kept the pressure on the Bobcats, getting off 11 shots in the first half, but the game held at 1-0 at halftime.

It wasn't until the 75th minute that the Presidents struck again. This time it was freshman Christian Payne (South Park, Pa./South Park), assisted by senior Justin Carter (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton). Just three minutes later, sophomore Matt Kotkiewicz (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) was able to steal the ball from a Bobcat defender and found the back of the net for his first goal of the season, to yield the final margin.

Sophomore Nick Stasko (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) (1-1) started in net for the Presidents and earned the win, making two saves in the process. Sophomore Jeremy Stone (Hope Mills, N.C./Fayetteville Academy) saw his first action of the season, playing the final 40:51 and making one save. Reese Laurell (0-2) played all 90 minutes for the Bobcats and took the loss, making eight saves.

The Presidents outshot the Bobcats 11-6 in the second half for a total advantage of 22-9 in shots and 11-3 in shots on goal.

The Presidents return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 10, when they host Mount Union in their home opener at 1 p.m.
