Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lindquist scores career high but Presidents come up short

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Brian Lindquist (Narvon, Pa./Pequa Valley) scored a career-high 28 points on Wednesday night, but it was not enough as the Washington & Jefferson men's basketball team came up on the short end of an 86-72 decision against Bethany in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

After the Bison jumped out to a slight 7-6 edge, the Presidents countered with a 12-0 run, eight of those points coming from Lindquist. After the Bison regained a three-point lead, thanks to a 12-0 run of their own, W&J outscored Bethany 20-18 the rest of the first half, five more points from Lindquist, to go into halftime trailing just 37-36.

Lindquist scored 10 of the Presidents' first 18 points in the second half to help the Presidents tie the game, 54-54, with 9:38 to play. However, Bethany's offense came alive from that point on as the Bison went on to outscore the Presidents 32-18 over the last nine minutes to yield the final margin.

Lindquist shot 10-for-16 from the field in the game and sank 8-of-9 free throws while pulling in a team-high seven rebounds to go along with two assists and two blocks. Brian Graytok (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) put forth a strong game as he finished with 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Jonathan DeVito (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) scored a season-high 10 points on just 3-for-4 shooting from the field, including 2-for-3 on triples, as he pulled down three boards to go with his five dimes and two steals. Mike Zappala (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) contributed nine points and seven rebounds while dishing out three assists and blocking a shot.

As a team, the Presidents shot an even 50 percent from the field in the second half and finished the game with a .481 field goal percentage (25-for-52) while scoring 34 points in the paint and outscoring the Bison in second chance points (11-9).

The Presidents will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 14, when they travel to Thomas More in a 3 p.m. PAC contest.
