CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. -- The Presidents established a new program record with 17 made three-pointers, led by
Sean Stinelli's (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) seven triples, but fell short at league leader Thomas More, 82-72.
The 17 three-pointers represent the most by a team in the Presidents' Athletic Conference this season. Along with setting a new Washington & Jefferson mark for makes from beyond-the-arc, the Presidents' 38 attempts match the W&J single-game record which was set on Dec. 2, 2004 at Case Western Reserve.
Stinelli's seven made trifectas are the most for W&J since Doug Johnson made a school-record nine at Juniata on Nov. 25, 2014. The rookie finished with 23 points, a game-high, on the afternoon thanks to 8-of-14 from the field and 7-of-12 from long range (5-of-9 in the second half), upping his high mark from the 17 he scored at Juniata earlier this season.
Four Presidents sank a pair of three-pointers as
Joe Satira (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley) and
Sven Zepic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) were 2-of-3 and 2-of-4, respectively, while
Jonathan DeVito (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) and
Mike Zappala (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) each shot 2-of-7 from downtown.
Adam Alexander (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and
Alex Richards (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) both connected once from three-point range in the loss.
Zappala (11) and Zepic (10) joined Stinelli in double figures for the Presidents, while
Brian Graytok (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) hauled in a team-best five rebounds and shared the team lead of five assists with Satira.
Five Saints reached double digits, led by Simon Clifford's 18 points and Damion King's 17.
W&J will return home to host Waynesburg on Wednesday, Jan. 18 to close out the first time through the conference slate. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on the
PAC Sports Network.
