BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson's starters combined for 72 of the team's 74 points as the Presidents erased a five-point halftime deficit to record a 74-66 Presidents' Athletic Conference win at Geneva.
Â
The Presidents closed the game on a 10-0 run, sparked by a three-point play by
Sean Stinelli (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and another from
Brian Lindquist (Narvon, Pa./Pequa Valley). A pair of free throws from
Jonathan DeVito (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) all but sealed the game before
Brian Graytok (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) hit an uncontested layup near the final buzzer to set the final margin.
Â
W&J opened the second half on a 15-4 run, including 11-0 to end it, to go from trailing by five (34-29) at halftime to leading by six (44-38) with 15:34 remaining. The visitors eventually worked the lead out to a game-high 10 points (55-45) on a triple by Stinelli at 11:36. Geneva roared back into the game, however, with a 13-0 run that saw the home team re-take the lead for the first time since early in the second half, 56-55.
Â
Lindquist led all players with 23 points on the day, thanks to an 8-of-15 showing from the floor and 7-11 afternoon at the free-throw line. He was also second on the team with six boards.
Mike Zappala (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) was next at 17 points, plus five boards, three assists and two steals, while Graytok and Stinelli both chipped in 15 points. Graytok matched the game high with four helpers. DeVito snagged a team-best eight boards.
Â
