Presidents post sixth shutout of 2017 with 2-0 win at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Presidents ran their winning streak to eight matches with a 2-0 nonconference field hockey victory at Wooster on Wednesday, Oct. 18.
 
Washington & Jefferson improves to 9-3 on the season, while the Fighting Scots drop to 8-7 overall.
 
Alana Boyd (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) opened the scoring with 2:38 remaining in the first half when she played a through ball from Jenna Jaworski (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) that got past the keeper for the open finish. Jaworski tacked on an insurance goal less than five minutes into the second half when she corralled a loose ball around the cage and finished to the near post.
 
W&J held an overall 9-7 advantage on shots and 6-4 in shots on goal behind a 6-1 lead in the first half. Boyd recorded five shots on the evening, including four on goal, while Jaworski had a pair of shots. Rachel Fromm (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) and Sofiya Bobrovnikova (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) each had a shot in the win.
 
Karlie Baran (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) recorded her sixth shutout of the season, and 14th of her career, in goal for W&J. The win improved her season record to 9-3 and her career mark to 28-9, while lowering her season goals-against average to 0.62.
 
The Presidents will travel to St. John Fisher for an Empire 8 match-up that will determine home field advantage for the upcoming conference tournament on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 12 p.m.
