WASHINGTON, Pa. – A career high tying four-goal performance by
Jordan Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant/Saint Francis (Pa.)) helped the Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team to a 6-0 win at home over Saint Vincent on Wednesday night, Oct. 18, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
The win is the fourth in a row for the Presidents, putting their 2017 overall record at 9-5-1 with a 4-2 PAC record, while the Bearcats fall to 1-12-1 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
After going scoreless in the first half, the Presidents wasted little time in the second frame in getting on the board as
Tatiana Ruzzini (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) crossed to
Ashton Grimm (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville/Saint Francis (Pa.)) cutting through the defense who one-timed the shot into the back of the net just 32 seconds into the new period.
Ruzzini added her second helper of the match, her team-leading 11th of the season, when she headed a pass to Toohey outside the penalty box, who then took one touch to gain separation from the last defender before tapping the ball just inside the right post to put W&J ahead 2-0 in the 58th minute.
In the 65th minute, Ruzzini scored an unassisted goal after cutting back on a defender to create her own space for a left-footed shot to the near post.
Toohey scored her second, third and fourth goals in a 5:04 span from the 67th to 72nd minutes to cap the scoring in the match and to finish off her third career four-goal game.
With seven shots and six on goal, Toohey tallied her first hat trick of the season and ninth of her career. The four goals pushed her career goal total to 60, which is good for third place on the W&J all-time scoring list behind Holly Shipley and Nicole Bosley (61).
Ruzzini's four-point day came on the strength of six shots and two on target. It was not only her third consecutive multi-point game but also her third straight game with at least one goal and at least one assist.
Brianna Floryshak (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) finished with four shots, one on goal, and assisted on Toohey's fourth goal.
Allison Rinehimer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) made two saves in the game to earn her seventh win of the season, her third shutout of the year and the 13th shutout of her career.
Ten Presidents combined for 27 total shots in the game while six of them put together a total of 12 attempts on goal.
The Presidents will get back on the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 21, for a 1:00 p.m. PAC Homecoming matchup against Westminster.
