Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

W&J blanks Westminster, 1-0, in Homecoming contest

WASHINGTON, Pa. – An early Washington & Jefferson goal held strong for the following 78 minutes as the women's soccer team earned a hard-fought home win over Westminster on Saturday, Oct. 21, in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.

The Presidents improve to 10-5-1 overall this season with a mark of 5-2 in the PAC while the Titans fall to 10-6 overall and 5-2 in conference matches.

After recording her third career four-goal game earlier in the week, Jordan Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant/Saint Francis (Pa.)) put the Presidents in front in the 12th minute when she tapped in a corner cross taken by Josie Madden (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward), who placed her attempt right on Toohey's right foot at the near post.

Toohey's goal was the 61st of her career, tying Nicole Bosley and Holly Shipley for the most in program history. Two of Toohey's four shot attempts finished on target in the match.

Madden, Chandler Marteeny (Somerset, Pa./Somerset), Sam Fields (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) and Ashton Grimm (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville/Saint Francis (Pa.)) all tallied one shot on goal and combined for six total shots.

Allison Rinehimer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) earned her eighth win of the season and made two saves to record her fourth shutout of the season, third in the last four matches, and the 14th of her career.

W&J's offense put together 16 shots in the match and held Westminster to eight in addition to holding a 6-2 shot on goal advantage.

The Presidents will be back on the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 25, for a PAC road match against Bethany beginning at 4:00 p.m.
