Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

W&J comes up short against Westminster, 2-1

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team was defeated by Westminster by a score of 2-1 on Saturday, Oct. 21, in its Homecoming contest in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

The loss drops the Presidents to 9-6 overall and 2-4 in the PAC while the win improves the Titans to 8-7-1 and 3-3 against conference counterparts.

Just 34 seconds after Westminster gained a 1-0 advantage in the third minute, Matt Kotkiewicz (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) evened the score when he received a pass from Sam Caurdy (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) in the penalty box, allowing Kotkiewicz to finish from close range with the keeper out of position.

The match remained tied, 1-1, until the 68th minute when Westminster scored the go-ahead goal to yield the final margin.

Kotkiewicz, Paul Mokrzan (Hilliard, Ohio/Watterson) and Jacob Fetterman (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) finished with three shots on goal apiece to lead a strong W&J attack that totaled 17 shots and 11 on goal. Garrett Dunn (Rushville, Ohio/Lancaster) and Alex Blout (Apopka, Fla./Apopka) both shot twice, with Blout putting one attempt on goal.

Nick Stasko (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) played all 90 minutes as the W&J keeper and made two saves in the match.

The Presidents will return to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 25, when they travel to Bethany for a road PAC match kicking off at 7:30 p.m.
