Presidents open weekend play in New London, Conn.

How it Happened: The Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team fell in its opening game of the weekend, 10-8, to host Connecticut College.
 
Top Performers: Troy Smith (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos) recorded a hat trick with one goal in the second, third and fourth quarters each to head the Presidents' offense. Nick Spehar (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) also had a strong opening game with two goals.
 
The Rest: Tyler Francis (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), Ethan Moy (New York, N.Y./Math, Science, Engineering at City College) and Chonghwi Yoon (Seoul, South Korea/Pennington School (N.J.)) all scored once to round out the scoring in game one.

How it Happened: The Presidents closed their first day of play with a 10-6 loss to rival Penn State Behrend.
 
Top Performers: Smith and Ian Geister (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) tallied two goals apiece as Smith scores came in the second and third quarters while Geister recorded his in the first and fourth quarters.
 
The Rest: Dylan Gwinn (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph) and David Boyer (York, Pal./Central York) put a goal on the board each to close the W&J scoring.

Date: Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, 10:30 a.m.
Where: Connecticut College – New London, Conn.
Opponent: Gannon
Result: L, 17-5
 
How it Happened: W&J Men's Water Polo dropped its Sunday matchup to Gannon by a 17-5 margin, 
 
Top Performers: Smith led the Presidents' offense as the only player with multiple goals against Gannon, scoring in the third and fourth quarters.
 
The Rest: Spehar, Geister and Tyler Francis (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) each finished with a goal in the contest, scoring in the first, second and fourth quarters, respectively.
 
What's Next: The Presidents will travel to Erie, Pa., on Saturday, Nov. 4, when they begin competing in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference-West Championship. Opponents and times of matches will be posted when that information becomes available.
