W&J cruises past Chatham, 3-0

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team used a season-high .287 hitting percentage to sweep Chatham (25-21, 25-11, 25-18) for the second time this season in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Tuesday night, Oct. 24.
 
The Presidents improve to 12-10 overall with the win and 9-7 in PAC play while the Cougars fall to 15-10 overall and 6-10 in conference.
 
Abbey Eich (Greencastle, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) led all players with 13 kills on the night on a .545 hitting percentage, her highest of the season. Madison Lydic (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) turned in her second consecutive nine-kill, zero error match as her hitting percentage sat at .391, her fourth performance in the last five matches with a hitting percentage of .391 or better.
 
Mallory O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) finished with 32 assists and 10 digs, her 12th 30-assist and 10-dig effort of the season, as she also finished five of 12 attack attempts with no errors. Julia Bernesser (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) had a solid offensive performance as well, totaling six kills on a .294 hitting percentage.
 
Makenzie Coughlin (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) led the W&J defense with 17 digs and two service aces while Katie Conner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) tallied 10 digs to go along with four assists.
 
The Presidents will close their regular season with a doubleheader against Thiel on Saturday, Oct. 28, with game times slated for 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. as Senior Day festivities will be held prior to the 11:00 a.m. contest.
