WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Five goals by four different players helped the Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team cruise to a 5-0 win over Waynesburg on senior day, Oct. 28, in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
Â
This is the fifth time in the past seven games that the Presidents have won 5-0. W&J finish regular season play with a record of 12-5-1 overall and 7-2 in the PAC, while Waynesburg falls to 7-9-1 overall and 3-6 in conference.
Â
Jordan Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant/Saint Francis (Pa.)) put W&J on the board in the sixth minute as she accepted a pass from
Tatiana Ruzzini (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) outside the attack box, before dribbling through two defenders for a shot.
Â
In the 11th minute,
Brianna Floryshak (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) added another score as she collected a blocked ball for a shot past the keeper.
Ashton Grimm (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville/Saint Francis (Pa.)) tallied the final goal of the first half on a through ball from Toohey that Grimm netted to the keeper's right.
Â
W&J scored its final two goals in the last five minutes of play. A corner from
Josie Madden (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) found the foot of
Nicole Walters (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) who tickled the twine on a one-timer. Toohey then wrapped up the scoring in the 87th minute, as Walters booted a ball from midfield that received a one-touch from Ruzzini, and gave Toohey a one-on-one with the goalie, who came out to challenge, that she tapped inside the left post.
Â
Toohey led the team with five shots, three on target, plus two goals and an assist. She was followed by Ruzzini with three shots and three assists, tying her career high for assists in a game. Madden and
Jillian Bartman (Findleyville, Pa./Ringgold) added two shots apiece, with Madden also tallying an assist. Seven other Presidents took one shot each, giving W&J a 19-3 advantage, including 8-2 on goal.
Â
Allison Rinehimer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) started at keeper and picked up two saves in her 10th win of the season.
Â
The Presidents move on to the PAC Women's Soccer Championship as the third seed and will travel to second-seeded Grove City on Tuesday, Oct. 31, for a semifinal time yet to be announced.
