CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Washington & Jefferson tallied a goal in the 58th minute but it was not enough as the women's soccer team fell to Thomas More on Tuesday, Oct. 3, in its first bit of Presidents' Athletic Conference action of the season.
The loss drops the Presidents to 5-4-1 overall on the season as the Saint improve to 8-3-1 overall and 2-0 in the PAC.
Trailing 1-0 in the second half,
Jordan Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant/Saint Francis (Pa.)) equalized in the 58th minute on a feed from
Ashton Grimm (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville/Saint Francis (Pa.)).
The 1-1 tie didn't stand for long as the Saints went ahead for good in the 64th minute.
Thomas More's first goal came in the 22nd minute, the second of four shots taken by the Saints in the first half.
Tatiana Ruzzini (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and
Alexa Smith (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) were the only Presidents to get off multiple shots in the game with Ruzzini firing three times and putting two on goal while Smith put one of two shots on target.
Allison Rinehimer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) played all 90 minutes as the W&J goalkeeper and saved four of six shots.
Both squads shot four times in the first half followed by Thomas More holding a slight 5-4 advantage in the second half. The Presidents and Saints both put six shots on target in the game.
The Presidents will return home for another PAC match on Friday, Oct. 6, when they host Grove City at 5:30 p.m.
