FROSTBURG, Md. – The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team used overtime action to defeat Frostburg State 2-1 on Wednesday, Oct. 4 in nonconference play.

The Presidents came out shooting in overtime, and took six shots before they earned a penalty stroke in the 78th minute.
Gabby Karr (White Hall, Md./North Hartford) capitalized on the penalty, as she shot inside the left post for the game winner.Â

Trailing 1-0 after allowing a goal in the 33rd minute, W&J tied the game when
Alana Boyd (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) received a feed from
Claire Shaak (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County) and shot through traffic to knot the score.
Rachel Buyan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) led the team as she took 11 shots with seven going on target. Boyd added seven shots, all on goal, and an assist. Jaworski and Karr (White Hall, Md./North Hartford) tallied five shots apiece with four and three on goal, respectively.
Ashley Overton (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) took two shots as well, with both on target.

Karlie Baran (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) earned her sixth win of the season as she made 2 saves.

The Presidents outshot Frostburg 31-3, holding a 25-3 advantage in shots on goal, including 7-0 in overtime. W&J also took 13 more penalty corners than FSU, with the final total at 19-6.

W&J (6-3, 3-0 Empire 8) will return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 12:00 p.m. as they travel to Utica for a conference showdown.
