Game Recap: Field Hockey |

W&J remains unbeaten in E8 play with 2-1 win over Utica

UTICA, N.Y. – The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team moved to 4-0 in Empire 8 Conference play with a 2-1 win on the road at Utica on Saturday, Oct. 7.
 
With the win, the Presidents improve to 7-3 overall while their 4-0 mark in conference marks the second straight year in which they have won their first four conference games.
 
With the score tied, 1-1, in the second half, Rachel Buyan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) gave the Presidents the final lead of the game, an unassisted goal in the 48th minute for her team-leading seventh score of the year and 16th point of the campaign.
 
Jenna Jaworski (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) scored the first goal of the game in the 10th minute, also unassisted. The goal marked the third of the season for Jaworski, tying Ashley Overton (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) for third most on the team.
 
The Pioneers quickly tied the game with a goal in the 16th minute, leading up the Buyan's game-winner in the second half.
 
Jaworski and Alana Boyd (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) both fired three shots in the game as Jaworski put all three on goal to two for Boyd. Overton also shot twice in the game, putting both on target.
 
Karlie Baran (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) earned her seventh win of the season as the W&J goalie as she stopped five of six shots. Baran has allowed one goal or less in eight contests this year, all coming in the last eight games.
 
W&J held advantages in total shots (9-7) and shots on goal (8-7) over the Pioneers.
 
The Presidents will return home on Saturday, Oct. 14, when they host Hartwick in another E8 matchup beginning at 12:00 p.m. with Senior Day festivities taking place prior to the game.
