Balanced effort leads W&J to 77-29 win over Notre Dame (Md.)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Washington & Jefferson got points from 10 different players, no one scoring more than 13, to cruise past Notre Dame (Md.) in nonconference action at the Music City Classic, 77-29.

The victory improves the Presidents to 10-1 on the season behind a 6-1 mark in nonconference action. With non-league games completed for the campaign, W&J will return to Presidents' Athletic Conference play for the remainder of the 2017-18 regular season, beginning with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at Thiel on Wednesday, Jan. 3.

W&J's defense was stifling all day against Notre Dame, yielding just point-by-period totals of 9-4-10-6, forcing 25 turnovers (which were turned into 33 points) and holding the Gators to just 18.2 percent (10-of-55) from the field and 7.1 percent (1-of-14) from three.

Maria Lawhorne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) led the Presidents with 13 points on the afternoon, plus tied for the game high with nine rebounds, both marking season highs for the freshman. Taley Dunaway (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) shot 5-of-9 from the floor in totaling 12 points. Danielle Parker (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) joined the duo in double figures with 10 points, plus five boards, three assists, two blocks and two steals.

Mya Gordon (Washington, Pa./Washington) and Alie Seto (Allison, Pa./Brownsville) both contributed nine points, with Seto tying Lawhorne with nine rebounds as well, her second-straight game with nine boards. Amirah Moore (Moon Township, Pa./Moon), Mia Woytovich (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) and Lauren Gilbert (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) each dished out five assists.
