WASHINGTON, Pa. --
Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) scored a season-high six goals and added an assist to lead the Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team to a 15-2 win over Waynesburg on Thursday, March 16, to open Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action.
After Waynesburg scored the first goal of the game, the Presidents buried 12 goals in a row spanning across just more than 20 minutes of action to take a 12-1 lead.
After the Yellow Jackets scored the final goal of the first half, the Presidents blanked Waynesburg in the second half and added three more goals to yield the final margin.
LaRochelle recorded at least five goals for the second time this season and she has multiple goals in all four games as well for a team-leading 15 scores this year. Her assist to
Caroline Kallos (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) in the second half was her first of the season. Kallos and
Monica Ewansik (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) both recorded hat tricks in the game. This was the first hat trick of the season for both players while it was the third multi-goal game for Kallos and second for Ewansik.
Lauren Brown (Novi, Mich./Novi),
Kayla Boulas (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) and
Katelyn White (Linthicum, Md./North County) each scored once to round out the W&J scoring on the day while Boulas also added an assist.
Kallos recorded game highs in ground balls (6), caused turnovers (3) and draw controls (5) as LaRochelle scooped up four ground balls.
Michaela Mulokey (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) (1-2) earned the win as the netminder for the Presidents playing the first half.
Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J Roberts) played the second half, stopped two shotsand did not allow a goal. Kaitlyn Wetzel (0-1) took the loss for the Yellow Jackets as she made six saves.
W&J held a 31-6 edge in shots, including a 21-4 advantage in shots on goal, and capitalized on 7-of-12 free-position attempts in the game.
The Presidents will get back on the field on Monday, March 20, when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan in a 6 p.m. nonconference battle.
