Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Boulas nets game winner with 41 seconds left in 7-6 victory

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Kayla Boulas (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) broke a 6-6 tie with 41 seconds left to give the Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team a 7-6 nonconference victory over Muskingum on Wednesday night (March 29, 2017).

Boulas recorded her second goal of the game after taking a pass from Monica Ewansik (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and firing into the cage. Ewansik also assisted on the game-tying goal from Caroline Kallos (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) that knotted the match at 6-6 with 4:15 remaining in regulation.

After taking a 5-4 lead into halftime, the Presidents yielded the first two goals of the second half to fall behind for the first time on the afternoon at the 13:38-mark of the second half. Lauren Brown (Novi, Mich./Novi) broke a 4-4 tie with seven seconds remaining in the first half to give W&J the halftime advantage.

Ewansik needed just 20 seconds to open the scoring in the first half. A pair of goals by Kallos nearly six minutes apart pushed the lead to 3-0 around the midway point of the opening period. The second goal off the stick of Kallos was the 100th of her career, making her the sixth player in W&J women's lacrosse history to tally 100 career goals.

For the game, W&J held a 22-16 lead in shots and picked up 11 of the 15 draw controls. Both teams snagged 16 ground balls.

Ewansik's four points (goal, three assists) were a game high, as were her seven shots. Kallos finished with a hat trick and Boulas added a pair of scores.

Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) (1-1) picked up her first collegiate win in relief, making a pair of saves in the second half. Michaela Mulokey (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) made four saves in the first 30 minutes.

With the victory, W&J improves to 2-4 this season, while the Muskies drop to 4-6 after the defeat.

The Presidents will return to action on Wednesday, April 5, with a 6 p.m. Ohio River Lacrosse Conference match at Westminster in New Wilmington, Pa. It will be the first meeting between the two squads, as the Titans are in their first year of competition.
